Our organic linseed oil is regularly pressed and filtered fresh and in best quality.
Grass has a crude fat content of 3.5 to 7% with a ratio of omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids of 4:1 or higher. Linseed oil has a very similar pattern with approx. 57 (to 60) % omega 3 and approx. 15 % omega 6 fatty acid, which corresponds to the ideal for horses. Especially in winter, when there is no need to feed enough grass, or for horses that do not graze all year round, feeding Omega 3 is essential.
Especially during the winter months, the supply of these essential fatty acids is often deficient. Already approx. 5-10 g linseed oil / 100 kg body weight are sufficient for pure hay feeding to compensate for the resulting deficit. During the change of coat it is recommended to double the amount.
Linseed oil is also a good source of slowly releasing energy for horses, which should usually not be "hot". The digestive enzyme for fats (lipase) can adapt very well to the horse and be released sufficiently in the digestive secretion of the pancreas. The maximum feeding quantity of 100 g per 100 kg body mass should under no circumstances be exceeded. Slow feeding of larger quantities is important, as with grazing in spring!
Our organic linseed oil is regularly pressed and filtered fresh and in best quality. In order to be able to press as often as possible, we offer the organic linseed oil at a very favourable price, in order to be able to offer permanently fresh linseed oil due to a higher turnover rate. It can be stored in the freezer to extend its shelf life and maintain its freshness. Thus it remains longer durable. Due to its low melting point of -16 to -20 °C, it is still free-flowing.
When opened in the refrigerator, the oil can be kept for a maximum of 3 months.
Semhof organic linseed oil for horses is available in 1, 3, 5 and 10 litre containers. For better handling you can purchase an empty 1 litre dosage bottles. Thus you do not have to open the canister daily and the regular oxygen exchange is prevented. Thus the oil oxidizes clearly more slowly.
